The Commercial Tax officer, Virendra Singh and Constable Kishore Kumar Shukla were killed on-duty after a truck allegedly hit their SUV in Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura district.

Five others, among them a joint commissioner (special investigation branch) were seriously injured when a truck rammed into the squad. The squad  was checking a vehicle on a special input of transportation of silver without paying GST.

The officer had set up a check-post near Milestone 60 on Yamuna expressway in Mathura’s Naujheel area when the truck drove into the personal car of joint commissioner Tripathi, leaving him seriously injured. Assistant commissioner Vinay Gupta, peon Vinod Kumar and driver Vijay Kumar sustained serious injuries.

The additional commissioner of commercial tax, Vinay Asthana gave some specific information about transportation of a silver consignment from Agra to Delhi with GST evasion.

According to Asthana, they had parked their vehicles on the side of the expressway and the truck rammed directly into the joint commissioner’s car.

Asthana said,  “it was a deliberate act”.

Mr. Gaurav Grover, Mathura Senior Superintendent of Police said the incident took place around 11.30 pm Wednesday on the Yamuna Expressway, near Aligarh border.

Grover said that a seven-member team of the Commercial Tax department was on inspection duty on the Yamuna Expressway in Naujheel police station area when an Eicher Canter on way to Delhi hit the Renault Duster of the officials.

“The officials suffered injuries in the crash and were rushed to a hospital where two of them – a Commercial Tax officer and a constable unfortunately succumbed, while others are under treatment at the hospital,” he added.

Grover said he and Mathura District Magistrate Navneet Singh Chahal have inspected the incident site while the police department is also probing the matter.

Senior officials of the Commercial Tax department have also been apprised of the incident, he said, adding that further legal proceedings in the case were being carried out.
