The Lok Sabha Secretariat has issued a notice regarding the sittings of the Select Committee of Lok Sabha to examine the Income Tax Bill, 2025. The crucial discussions on the upcoming Income Tax Law are set to take place on March 6 and 7, 2025, with oral evidence to be rendered by representatives of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), Ernst & Young (EY), Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

The Income-Tax Bill, 2025, was tabled in the Lok Sabha by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on February 13, 2025. The review process to be undertaken by the Select Committee forms a critical part of the legislative process before the bill is finalized, passed, and implemented.

Details of the Income Tax Bill Review Meeting
The first sitting on Thursday, 6 March, 2025, from 1100 hrs to 1300 hrs shall feature oral evidence from representatives of the ICAI. This will be followed by another session from 1400 hrs onwards, where representatives from EY will present their perspectives.

The sitting process of the Select Committee shall resume on Friday, 7 March, 2025 with representatives of FICCI to present their oral evidence from 1100 hrs to 1300 hrs before the committee. Later that afternoon, from 1400 hrs onwards, the representatives of CII shall share their views on the bill.

The notice was signed by Vinay Pradeep Barwa, Director, Lok Sabha Secretariat and addressed to the Chairperson and Members of the Select Committee of Lok Sabha to examine the Income-Tax Bill, 2025, who are expected to attend the proceedings.

As per the notice, agenda papers for the sittings will be circulated later via the Members’ Portal and email. Members of the committee have been requested to ensure their presence for these sittings, a necessary precursor for shaping the final draft of the Income Tax Act, 2025.
