Compulsory Standard Steel Wires or Strands - Nylon or Wire Ropes and Wire mesh - DPIIT notifies QC Order - TAXSCAN

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry, vide notification no. S.O. 5022(E) issued on 22nd November 2023 has notified the Steel Wires or Strands, Nylon or Wire Ropes and Wire mesh Quality Control Order, 2023 which mandates compulsory standard marks. 

This order, which mandates the use of compulsory standard marks, is set to come into effect six months from its publication in the Official Gazette. According to the provisions, goods or articles specified in the order must conform to the corresponding Indian Standard mentioned in the provided Table. These items are also required to bear the Standard Mark obtained through a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards, following Scheme-1 of Schedule-II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

It’s important to note that the order excludes goods or articles manufactured domestically for export.

Additionally, the enforcement of the order for micro-enterprises, as defined in the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006, is set to take effect twelve months from the date of publication. For small enterprises, the order will become applicable nine months from the date of publication.

This move by the Ministry aims to enhance the overall quality and standardisation of steel wires, strands, nylon or wire ropes, and wire mesh, contributing to consumer safety and industry reliability.

Any person who contravenes the provisions of this Order shall be punishable under the provisions of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
