The unaccounted cash discovered at locations associated with Congress c MP Dhiraj Sahu has surged to ₹353 crore as the final tally concluded on Sunday. This cash discovery, totaling over ₹350 crore in 176 bags, involving three banks and 40 machines, has become the largest single-operation cash seizure in the country.

This development has evolved into a significant political controversy, given the MP’s connection to the matter.

Initiated on Wednesday by the income tax department, the raids targeted premises of Boudh Distilleries Private Limited across Odisha, Jharkhand, and West Bengal. The search uncovered stacks of currency notes stored in almirah racks. The counting process, spanning several days due to the normal operations of the SBI branch involved, was eventually completed over the weekend.

The involvement of the Congress MP in this financial matter has not been addressed by either the MP or the company. The Congress party, distancing itself from the MP’s business, has urged him to clarify the origin of this substantial cash amount.

The counting operation, held at an SBI branch, encountered initial challenges, including a shortage of currency counting machines, which were quickly addressed.

The comprehensive counting process engaged nine teams comprising approximately 80 individuals from the tax department and various banks, working round the clock in shifts. Following the discovery of 10 cash-filled almirahs, an additional team of 200 officials, including security personnel, drivers, and support staff, joined the operation.
