Kailash Gahlot, the finance minister for Delhi, unveiled the 78,800 crore rupee budget for the coming fiscal year 2023–2024. Large-scale announcements in the budget were made regarding the health, energy, and infrastructure sectors.

Among the allocation, education gets the highest allocation at ₹16,575 crore and over ₹9,700 crores allocated to the health sector. Also, ₹9,333 crores of the budget was allocated to the transport sector. The allocation itself conveys that the government prioritised the education and health sector more. The budget covered all the important and basic areas that should be covered.

After Manish Sisodia, the deputy chief minister, resigned due to his detention by the CBI in relation to the Delhi excise policy scam, Gahlot assumed control of the finance department. Recently, the Delhi Rouse Avenue Court extended the Enforcement Department custody.

The Key highlights are:

  1. 450 free diagnostic tests
  2. Free bus ride scheme for women to continue in 2023-24
  3. Mohalla clinics to be established at metro station
  4. 100 mahila mohalla clinics to be set up
  5. Government soon launch motor vehicle aggregator and delivery service scheme
  6. Aims to increase availability of water from current 975 MGD to 1240 MGD by 2025.
  7. Plans to set up 6000 MW solar infrastructure
  8. Aims 80% electric buses in city by 2025
  9. Targets 1,000 RO plants in JJ clusters, un authorised colonies, water-deficit areas
  10. Government plans to train 2 lakh construction workers under Skill Development Programme
  11. New buses to be inducted in Delhi will have factory-fitted GPS, 3 CCTV cameras, 10 panic buttons in a bid to boost women’s safety.
