The Income Tax Department has provided reassurance that no taxpayer data was lost and no physical damage occurred as a result of the fire incident at the Delhi Income Tax Office. This is attributed to the fact that income tax returns and all related proceedings are conducted electronically.
In a statement posted on X, the department confirmed that the fire has been brought under control, with investigations ongoing to determine its cause.
The Income Tax Department deeply regrets the unfortunate fire incident that occurred today at the Central Revenue building in New Delhi… The fire originated in room no. 325 and an adjoining room, primarily designated for administrative purposes, the department stated, emphasizing the swift evacuation measures implemented and the prompt response of fire brigades.
The department assured that no physical records were damaged and reiterated that there was no loss of taxpayer data. This assurance stemmed from the fact that all Income Tax Returns are filed online, and related proceedings are conducted electronically.
