Kandla and Visakhapatnam ports were added for exporting restricted essential commodities to Maldives for FY 2024-25. The Directorate General of Foreign Trade ( DGFT ) has notified the same through Notification no. 22/2024-25 dated 1st August 2024.
Under the powers granted by Section 3 in conjunction with Section 5 of the Foreign Trade (Development & Regulation) Act, 1992, and in accordance with paragraphs 1.02 and 2.01 of the Foreign Trade Policy (FTP) 2023—along with its subsequent amendments—the Central Government has amended Notification No. 06/2023 dated April 15, 2024.
The amendment introduces two additional ports, Kandla and Visakhapatnam, to the list of ports authorised for the export of essential commodities classified under the Prohibited/Restricted category to the Republic of Maldives for the fiscal year 2024-25.

The other ports originally mentioned in the previous notification no. 6 were Mundra Sea Port Tuticorin Sea Port, Nhava Sheva Sea Port (JNPT) and ICD Tughlakabad. The essential commodities allowed to export to the Maldives were Egg, Potatoes, Onions, Rice, Wheat Flour, Sugar, Dal, Stone Aggregate and River Sand in specified quantities.
For the export of above quantity of River Sand and Stone Aggregate, the government has clarified that CAPEXIL shall ensure that the suppliers/extractors have obtained appropriate clearances and mining of the sand is not undertaken in the Coastal Regulation Zone Area, which is prohibited under the Coastal Regulation Zone notification.
