The Directorate General of Foreign Trade ( DGFT ) has announced an important update concerning the import of yellow peas. According to the new directive, yellow peas classified under ITC( HS ) Code 07131010 from Chapter 07 are now eligible for free import, eliminating the previous Minimum Import Price ( MIP ) and port restrictions. This change applies to all import consignments for which the Bill of Lading is issued on or before December 31, 2024.
This policy shift is enacted under the powers granted by Section 3 and Section 5 of the Foreign Trade (Development & Regulation) Act, 1992, and adheres to the guidelines set forth in the Foreign Trade Policy (FTP) 2023. The update builds on previous notifications, including Nos. 50/2023, 61/2023, 04/2023, and 12/2024-25, reflecting the government’s ongoing efforts to streamline trade regulations.

The new policy takes effect immediately. Importers are now required to register their consignments through the online Import Monitoring System, which is designed to track and manage imports more effectively. The removal of MIP and port restrictions is intended to simplify the import process, potentially improving the flow of yellow peas into the market and stabilising supply and prices.
While the MIP and port restrictions have been lifted, all other conditions set out in the earlier notifications remain in place. Importers must continue to comply with existing import regulations and procedures that were established before this announcement.
Effective immediately, importers must register under the online Import Monitoring System. Other conditions specified in earlier notifications remain unchanged.
