The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has amended the export policy of Non-Basmati and Basmati rice vide notification No. 09 /2023 (S.O. 2769(E)) published on 26th June 2023 through official gazette.
Under the authority granted by Section 3 of the Foreign Trade (Development & Regulation) Act, 1992, as amended, in conjunction with paragraph 1.02 of the Foreign Trade Policy, 2023, the Central Government introduced the following amendment to Notification No. 27/2015-2020 dated August 17, 2022.
This amendment takes immediate effect and pertains to the policy conditions listed at Serial Numbers 55 and 57 in Schedule 2 of the ITC (HS) Export Policy, 2018, specifically regarding the export of rice (both Basmati and Non-Basmati).
The notification, numbered 27/2015-2020 and issued on August 17, 2022, is being amended. The amendment specified that the export of Rice (both Basmati and Non-Basmati) to European Union (EU) member states and other European countries such as Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom, will now necessitate a Certificate of Inspection from the Export Inspection Council (EIC) or Export Inspection Agency (EIA). However, for the next six months from the date of this notification, exports to the remaining European countries will not require a Certificate of Inspection from the EIC/EIA.
