DGFT Extends "Free" Import Policy for Urad Beans Until March 31, 2026

The Ministry of Commerce & Industry has issued Notification No. 64/2024-25, dated March 2025, announcing the extension of the "Free" import policy for Urad beans (Vigna Mungo L. Hepper) under ITC (HS) Code 07133110 until March 31, 2026.

The decision issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) under the Foreign Trade (Development and Regulation) Act, 1992, is a strategic move to maintain an adequate supply of Urad beans in the Indian market.

Previously, the free import status was set to expire on March 31, 2025, but the new amendment grants importers an additional year of unrestricted trade.

Amendment to the Import Policy

The notification amends the import conditions as follows:

Policy Effect:

As per the notification, Urad's "Free" import policy has been extended until March 31, 2026.

This move is expected to benefit importers, traders, and consumers alike. The Minister of Commerce and Industry approved the notification and signed by Santosh Kumar Sarangi, Director General of Foreign Trade and ex-officio Additional Secretary to the Government of India.
