The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has issued Public Notice No. 39/2023 on February 2, 2024, extending the deadline for the implementation of the Track and Trace system for the export of drug formulations.

This extension, outlined in Para 2.76 (vi) and (vii) of the Handbook of Procedure – 2023, now sets the new deadline for both Small Scale Industries ( SSI ) and non-SSI manufactured drugs to February 01, 2025.

The amendment, executed under Paragraph 2.04 of the Foreign Trade Policy 2023, modifies Para 2.90A of the Handbook of Procedure-2015-20. This change is in line with the DGFT's ongoing efforts to lay down procedural guidelines for the effective implementation of the Track and Trace system. The system focuses on maintaining the Parent-Child relationship in packaging levels and uploading relevant information on the Central Portal.

This extension provides pharmaceutical manufacturers with additional time to comply with the Track and Trace requirements, ensuring a smooth and streamlined process for the export of drug formulations. Stakeholders in the pharmaceutical industry, both SSI and non-SSI entities, are encouraged to take note of this extended deadline to facilitate timely and compliant implementation.

Effect of this Public Notice:

The date for implementation of Track and Trace system for export of drug formulations with respect to maintaining the Parent-Child relationship in packaging levels and its uploading on Central Portal has been extended up to February 01, 2025 for both SSI and non SSI manufactured drugs.
