The Director-General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has issued the procedure for the import of watermelon seeds.

Watermelon seeds cannot be imported in excess of 15,000 MT, according to Ministry of Commerce and Industry instructions.

With effect from the date of this Public Notice and no later than December 13, 2021, the DGFT will seek new applications for import authorisation for Water Melon Seeds – Other (ITC(HS) 12077090). Applications whose Importer-Exporter Code (IEC) issuing date is on or after the date of this Public Notice will not be accepted. Processors will only examine applications based on their own processing capacity on an Actual User basis. Applicants must present a self-certified copy of a document issued by Central/State/District Authorities specifying the processing capacity of each processing unit. Prior to the publication of this Public Notice, the certificate shall be dated. In addition to the online application, a valid FSSAI license is required. Only one application per IEC will be taken into consideration.

“The monthly/annual processing capacity of the applicant, as well as previous imports, will be taken into account while reviewing the applications. At any time, the DGFT reserves the right to make changes to the allocation as it sees fit,” the Public Notice read.

All holders of import authorizations must ensure that the import consignments covered by the authorizations arrive in Indian ports on or before March 31, 2022.
