The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has notified the amendment in the Export policy of broken rice under HS Code 1006 40 00 on 24th May 2023 vide notification no. 07/2023.
In accordance with the powers conferred to the Central Government under Section 3 read with Section 5 of the Foreign Trade (Development & Regulation) Act, 1992 as amended, read with Para 1.02 and 2.01 of the Foreign Trade Policy, 2023 incorporated the Policy Conditions for broken rice against ITC (HS) code 1006 40 00 of Chapter 10 of Schedule 2 of the ITC (HS) Export Policy.
The notification stated that the export of broken rice is forbidden. However, it also stipulated that the export would only be permitted in accordance with permission accorded by the Government of India to other nations in order to meet their needs for food security and in accordance with their Government's request.

Effect of the notification: Even though the export of broken rice is prohibited, it can be exported when the government allows it with the request of the other country’s government. There is no particular date for the prohibition.
Recently DGFT has notified the export policy of the Cough Syrup. It was amended that all the “Cough Syrup shall be permitted to be exported subject to the export sample being tested and production of Certificate of Analysis (CoA) issued by the mentioned laboratories in the notification.

To ensure that only top-notch goods are sent to other nations, the foreign trade directorate has toughened the export policies. It was a big surprise that they only just implemented such controls in the cough syrup export policy.
