DGFT Restricts Import of Cabinet Hinges Valued Below ₹280/kg Under Revised Policy [Read Notification]

The Ministry of Commerce & Industry has issued Notification No. 14/2025-26 dated 26th May 2025, announcing an amendment to the import policy for cabinet hinges and related fittings under Chapter 83 of the ITC (HS), 2022, Schedule-I.

The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has revised the policy conditions for four HS codes related to hinges and furniture fittings. Under the new rules, the import of these products will now be restricted if their CIF (Cost, Insurance, and Freight) value is less than Rs. 280 per kilogram.

Objective: This measure is likely aimed at curbing imports of low-quality, cheap hardware, encouraging domestic manufacturing, and protecting local industries from unfair competition. Importers will now need to obtain a specific license to import any cabinet hinges or related fittings priced below the prescribed CIF value.

The notification has been issued with the approval of the Minister of Commerce & Industry, and signed by Ajay Bhadoo, Director General of Foreign Trade and Additional Secretary to the Government of India.
