DGFT Restricts Import of Low-Value Roller Chains and Parts Below ₹235/kg [Read Notification]

The Ministry of Commerce & Industry has issued Notification No. 13/2025-26 dated 21st May 2025, announcing a significant amendment to the import policy for roller chains and their parts under Chapter 73 of the ITC (HS), 2022, Schedule-I.

According to the notification issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), imports of roller chains and their parts classified under HS Codes 73151100, 73151900, and 73159000 will now be subject to import restrictions if the CIF (Cost, Insurance, and Freight) value is less than Rs. 235 per kilogram.

Objective:

The move is aimed at curbing the import of low-quality or underpriced roller chains and parts, thereby protecting domestic manufacturers and ensuring higher standards in imported products. The restriction ensures that only higher-value imports are freely permitted, aligning with the government’s broader goals of quality control and fair trade.

This change has been introduced using the powers conferred under the Foreign Trade (Development & Regulation) Act, 1992, and is effective immediately.

The notification was signed by Ajay Bhadoo, Director General of Foreign Trade & Additional Secretary to the Government of India, with approval from the Minister of Commerce & Industry.
