The Department of Personnel and Training ( DoPT ) has issued two vacancy circulars dated December 5, 2024, inviting applications for positions in the Central Administrative Tribunal ( CAT ).
A total of five vacancies for Judicial Members and four vacancies for Administrative Members are available. The deadline for submitting applications is January 15, 2025, by 5:30 PM.

Eligibility Criteria for Judicial Member Positions in CAT
The qualifications, eligibility, salary, and other terms for the appointment of Judicial Members in the Central Administrative Tribunal ( CAT ) are governed by the Tribunal (Conditions of Service) Rules, 2021, as amended.
Judicial Experience:
- Must be or have been a Judge of a High Court, OR
- Have held the post of Additional Secretary to the Government of India or an equivalent/higher post in the Department of Legal Affairs, Legislative Department, or as Member-Secretary of the Law Commission of India, OR
- Have served as a District Judge and Additional District Judge for a combined period of 10 years, OR
- Have at least 10 years of experience as an advocate, with substantial litigation experience in service matters before the CAT, Armed Forces Tribunal, High Courts, or the Supreme Court.
Age Limit:
- As per the Tribunals Reforms Act, 2021, candidates must be at least 50 years old as of the last date for application submission.

Eligibility Criteria for Administrative Member Positions in CAT
Administrative Experience:
- Must have held the post of Additional Secretary to the Government of India or an equivalent post under the Central or State Government with a pay scale not less than that of an Additional Secretary.
- Officers from All-India Services on central deputation to a lower post will be considered as having held the post of Additional Secretary from the date of their proforma or actual promotion to that level. The period spent on central deputation after such promotion will count toward qualifying service.
Age Limit:
- As per the Tribunals Reforms Act, 2021, candidates must be at least 50 years old as of the last date for application submission.
Applicants can submit their applications via Speed Post or by hand to the CR Section, DoPT, located near Gate No. 5, North Block. Serving officers are required to apply through their Cadre Controlling Authority, while retired officers can send their applications directly.
