In a major boost to India’s beauty and personal care sector, the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) and The Estée Lauder Companies Inc. (ELC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strategize and promote entrepreneurship and innovation in the industry.
The Estée Lauder Companies Inc. is a global beauty powerhouse headquartered in New York, USA. It owns some of the world’s most renowned beauty brands, including MAC, Clinique, Bobbi Brown, La Mer, Estée Lauder, and Jo Malone London. Operating in over 150 countries, the company is a leader in skincare, makeup, fragrance, and hair care. Through its entrepreneurial program, BEAUTY&YOU India, ELC has been supporting founders shaping the future of beauty in India.

The newly signed MoU will integrate Startup India’s national platform with ELC’s BEAUTY&YOU India initiative, offering funding, mentorship, industry insights, and global networking opportunities to Indian beauty startups. A significant aspect of this collaboration is the introduction of a dedicated category for women-founded startups, reinforcing Estée Lauder’s commitment to gender inclusivity and women leadership development.

During the signing, DPIIT Joint Secretary, Shri Sanjiv, emphasized that India’s beauty industry is evolving rapidly, and initiatives like this are essential in fostering entrepreneurship. He noted that the partnership would unlock new opportunities for emerging brands and strengthen India’s position in the global beauty market.
Mr. Rohan Vaziralli, General Manager of The Estée Lauder Companies India, expressed enthusiasm about the expansion of BEAUTY&YOU India. He highlighted that Estée Lauder has long been committed to supporting founders who are shaping the future of beauty in India. The addition of a dedicated category for female-led startups aligns with the company’s broader mission of advancing women’s leadership in the beauty industry.
The MoU was signed by DPIIT Director, Dr. Sumeet Jarangal, and Mr. Rohan Vaziralli, in the presence of senior officials from both organizations.
