The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) conducted two major operations in close coordination with the Assam Rifles, leading to the seizure of heroin and methamphetamine valued at approximately ₹23.5 crore in the international grey market. Four drug traffickers have been arrested as a result of these operations.
The first operation took place on May 21, 2025, when officers of the DRI assisted by the 19 BN Assam Rifles, intercepted a truck at Noney in Manipur along National Highway 37. Upon inspection, authorities discovered 569 grams of heroin and 1,039 grams of methamphetamine tablets cleverly concealed in a specially fabricated cavity within the truck’s chassis.

The packets containing the contraband drugs were found to be concealed within a specially fabricated cavity/ chamber on the chassis of the truck.
The very next day, on May 22, 2025, the DRI, along with the Assam Rifles FIU Unit Silchar, carried out another successful operation by intercepting a truck at Aloicherra in Hailakandi District, Assam.

The search led to the recovery of 2,640.53 grams of heroin, which was also found deeply hidden in a specially built cavity on the bedload floor of the truck.

The seizure operations signify the effectiveness of joint operations between central enforcement agencies and the armed forces in the fight against organized narcotics trafficking networks operating in the region and our nation.
According to an official release by the Ministry of Finance, all seized narcotics were taken into custody under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. In total, four persons have been apprehended in connection with these operations and further investigations are underway.
The Ministry of Finance also highlighted the scale of anti-narcotics enforcement in the North-East this year, regarding which it is notable that since January this year, the DRI has seized drugs including ganja, methamphetamine tablets, and heroin worth ₹173 crore, leading to the arrest of 26 individuals involved in trafficking.
