The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence confiscated 1.698 kilograms of cocaine valued at 16.98 crores at the Indira Gandhi International Airport. This seizure was made from a female passenger of Kenyan nationality. The officers detained the passenger upon discovering her intent to transport the drugs to Mumbai for delivery.

After being questioned verbally, the passenger refuted having any illicit items in their possession. Nonetheless, a thorough inspection of the individual’s baggage conducted by DRI officials led to the discovery of approximately 1,698 grams of cocaine.

The estimated value of this cocaine in the illegal global market is around Rs. 17 crore. The passenger was also found to be in ownership of an airline ticket for a Mumbai-bound flight scheduled to take off a few hours later. This circumstance suggested that the intention was to transport the contraband to Mumbai for delivery.

After a period of persistent questioning and surveillance, a carefully orchestrated mission carried out by DRI personnel led to the effective apprehension of the individual who was meant to receive the illegal drugs. This person, identified as a Kenyan woman, was captured in the Vasai region of Mumbai.

Both the transporter and the receiver have been arrested in line with the regulations set forth by the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act of 1985. Ongoing inquiries are being conducted as part of the investigation.

Between the months of January and July in 2023, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has conducted 42 confiscations of cocaine and heroin throughout the nation. Over this time frame, DRI agents have successfully seized a total of 31 kilograms of cocaine and 96 kilograms of heroin.
