In accordance with the GST Council's proposal, the Goods and Services Tax Network ("GSTN") started the e-invoice registration services through numerous private Invoice Registration Portals ("IRPs") by advisory dated March 4, 2023. The details of the IRPs are mentioned here.

The taxpayers can now register their e-invoices using more than one IRP. This significantly increases the capacity and redundancy of the previous single e-invoice registration portal.

The e-Invoice System, where a unique Invoice Reference Number (IRN), digitally signed e-invoice, and QR code are generated and delivered to the user through the Invoice Registration Portal (IRP), for GST-registered persons to upload all B2B bills.

On the advice of the GST (Goods and Service Tax) Council, GSTN launched e-invoice registration services through a number of private IRPs as another move towards further digitising the business process flow. The GSTN appointed four commercial businesses to offer these e-invoice registration services to all national GST taxpayers.

The seamless exchange of an electronic invoice that has been digitally signed between buyers and sellers through connection with the GST system would make it simpler for taxpayers to comply with the law.

Additionally, it will make it easier for invoice details to be auto-drafted and auto-populated in GST returns, improving accuracy, the correctness of supply reporting, and the ability of supply recipients to claim Input Tax Credit.
