E-Way Bill System - provides new feature of De-register transporters - Cancel Common Enrolment - E- way bill system - TAXSCAN

The National Informatics Centre (NIC) on 29tth May 2023 has introduced new features to the E-way bill system to de-register or cancel common enrolment by themselves. The functionality and user experience for enrolled transporters and ordinary enrolled taxpayers are intended to be improved by these enhancements.

De-registration of Transporters : Through this feature, the transporters who had previously enrolled in the e-Waybill System using Enrolment (based on PAN) but no longer wish to do so may de-enroll themselves.

However, they won’t be able to access the e-Waybill interface after being de-enrolled. Therefore, this feature is available to any registered transporter who wants to de-register from the EWB system.

Cancellation of Common Enrolment : The taxpayer who completed the common enrolling and doesn’t wish to continue their common enrol ID, may cancel the same. This facility allows the taxpayer to cancel the enrolment.

It is pertinent to note that common enrolment Id cannot be used to update the transporter data once it has been cancelled. For the EWBs that were already allocated with a common enrolment ID prior to the cancellation, the Part-B details can be modified.

After common enrolment is cancelled, a deadline of one month will be given. The login will then be disabled, and no future use of the e-Waybill system is permitted. The user can log in again using their GSTIN credentials and produce e-waybills after the common enrol ID has been deactivated.

Additionally, the NIC also stated the Two-Factor authentication in order to secure the e-waybill login access. It was already enabled and kept optional, however it will be mandatory after a couple of weeks.

As a part of the two-factor authentication, in addition to username and password, OTP will also be authenticated for login. There are 3 different ways of receiving the OTP:

  1. SMS: There are 3 different ways of receiving the OTP.
  2. On ‘Sandes’ app: Sandes is a messaging app provided by the government so that you can send and receive messages. You may download and install the Sandes app on your registered mobile number and receive the OTP in it.

Using ‘NIC-GST-Shield’ app: ‘NIC-GST-Shield’ is a mobile app provided by E-Way Bill /E-invoice System, so that OTP can be generated by using the app.
