The Enforcement Directorate attached the properties worth Rs. 11.35 Crores of Pratap Kumar Samal, Deputy Manager of Odisha Police Housing Corporation (OPHC) and his family under the provisions of PMLA, 2002 in a case of Disproportionate Assets. The investigation is in progress.

The Odisha Police Housing Corporation (OPHC) is a government agency in the state of Odisha, India. It is responsible for the construction and maintenance of residential and non-residential buildings for the Odisha Police department.

The  Corporation strives to improve the working and living conditions of law enforcement officers in order to increase the efficacy and efficiency of the Odisha Police force in upholding law and order in the state.

According to a FIR filed by the Vigilance Police Station in Bhubaneswar under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 against Pratap Kumar Samal and his wife for amassing Disproportionate Assets totaling approximately Rs 14.88 Crore, the department has started an investigation under the PMLA, 2002.

The inquiry revealed that the Deputy Manager’s properties were obtained by corruption, and that he also acquired assets and properties in the names of his family members, hidden them, owned them, and otherwise committed the crime of money laundering. According to the PMLA, 2002’s provisions, the previously mentioned proceeds of crime have been provisionally attached.

Recently, the department has attached the properties of the Former – Indian Forest Services officer worth Rs. 66 lakhs under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002.

In addition, the ED has temporarily attached the properties of two MLAs, Ranu Sahu, an IAS, and others in connection with the illegal Coal Levy Extortion Scam in the State of Chhattisgarh.
