Directorate of Enforcement (ED) has attached immovable property situated at House No. 4, Max Colony City, New Abadi, Ghanupur Kale, Cheartha, Amritsar having a market value of approximately Rs. 1 Crore belonging to Ex. Inspector Inderjit Singh, Punjab Police; and a Fixed Deposit of Rs. 32.42 lakhs in connection with a money laundering investigation.
ED initiated an investigation on the basis of FIR and subsequent Challan filed by Special Task Force, Punjab Police against Inderjit Singh and others under the provisions of the Indian Penal Code, Prevention of Corruption Act, Arms Act and NDPS Act. Ex. Inspector Inderjit Singh had arrested a drug smuggler in the NDPS case. Thereafter, Inderjit Singh started pressurizing the family of the smuggler through his accomplice and got the ownership of the residential house in the name of a relative of his accomplice for helping the smuggler in getting bail.
The investigation further revealed that Inderjit Singh had also received illegal gratification of Rs. 39 lakhs in cash from the family members of the smuggler through his accomplice for not framing another case against the smuggler and his family under NDPS Act. The immovable property detailed above has been obtained directly by Inderjit Singh as a result of the scheduled offence. Further, “Proceeds of Crime” amounting to Rs. 39 lakhs in cash was generated by Inderjit Singh as illegal gratification. Therefore, the ED has provisionally attached movable property in the form of a Fixed Deposit of Rs. 32.42 lakhs as an equivalent value in lieu of “Proceeds of Crime” generated in cash and immovable property situated at, Amritsar as direct “Proceeds of Crime”. Further investigation is in progress.
