Three Maharashtra-based Goods and Services Tax (GST) officers were reportedly fired as a result of their participation in a fake raid, according to newspaper reports. It was the first time in the state administration to announce the dismissal of the officers through the newspaper.

The State GST department officially confirmed that the GST inspectors were involved in the fake raid and decamped with Rs. 11 Lakhs from a leading political leader.

The Senior bureaucrat Rajeev Mittal stated that after completing the entire administrative and legal procedure, they were dismissed from the service with immediate effect.

According to the reports, in the run up to the dismissal of 3 GST inspectors, the probe had revealed that they had conducted a fake raid on the premises of a leading trader and were in the process of extortion and left the premises with Rs. 11 lakh cash.

The continuing investigation being carried out by the state police department against the three inspectors will continue. On our end, we opened a departmental investigation and gave the inspectors a show-cause order. We chose to terminate their employment after hearing from them in order to preserve the department’s reputation, the official stated.

Apart from GST officials, the other departments including the customs department keeps on committing offences like asking for bribes from common citizens. Recently in the Mumbai Airport, the 3 customs officials were suspended for threatening the international passenger bringing an iPhone.

The higher authorities should be responsible for this and should regularly investigate and inquire about it.
