Finance Ministry Reduces Import Duties on Mosur (Lentils) & Yellow Peas [Read Notification]

The Ministry of Finance (Department of Revenue) issued Notification No. 16/2025-Customs dated March 7, 2025, announcing a revision in import duties on Mosur (Lentils) and Yellow Peas. The changes, aimed at regulating imports and ensuring price stability in the domestic market, will take effect from March 8, 2025.

According to the notification, the government has reduced the import duty on Mosur (Lentils) to 5% by amending previous customs notifications. Additionally, Yellow Peas have also been included in the revised duty structure. The move is expected to make imports of these pulses more affordable, potentially impacting both consumers and domestic producers.

Key Amendments:

• Import duty for Mosur (Lentils) under HS Code 0713 40 00 has been set at 5%.
• Notification No. 50/2017-Customs: The duty for Serial No. 21D has been revised to 5%.
• Notification No. 11/2018-Customs: A new entry (5A) has been added for Mosur (Lentils).
• Notification No. 11/2021-Customs: Serial No. 5 has been modified to reflect a 5% duty.
• Notification No. 49/2021-Customs: Certain provisions have been omitted.

2	11/2018-Customs, dated February 2, 2018	In the said notification, in the TABLE, after Sl. No. 5 and the entries relating thereto, the following Sl. No. and the entries shall be inserted: (1) (2) "5A. Lentils (Mosur) covered under HS Code 0713 40 00."
3	11/2021-Customs, dated February 1, 2021	In the said notification, in the TABLE, against S. No. 5, in column (4), for the entry, the entry “5%” shall be substituted.
4	49/2021-Customs, dated October 13, 2021	In the said notification, in the TABLE, S. No. 4 and the entries relating thereto shall be omitted.

These amendments will come into effect from March 8, 2025.

Additionally, Notification No. 17/2025-Customs extends the deadline for provisions under Notification No. 64/2023-Customs, dated December 7, 2023, from February 28, 2025, to May 31, 2025.
