Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs, Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, marked a significant occasion by inaugurating 12 Goods and Services Tax (GST) Seva Kendras at Gyandham School in Vapi, Gujarat.

In addition to this noteworthy launch, the Finance Minister also bestowed prizes to six customers who actively participated in the Mera Bill Mera Adhikaar scheme. Each winner received a generous award of Rs 10 lakh, recognizing their proactive involvement in the scheme by uploading valid GST bills on the designated app after their purchases.

During the event, Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman emphasized the importance of these state-of-the-art centers in bolstering the Ease of Doing Business in India. She extended her congratulations to Gujarat for taking the lead in establishing these centers, asserting that they will serve as a model for other states to follow in pursuit of similar initiatives. The Finance Minister of Gujarat, Shri Kanubhai Desai, and Shri Sanjay Kumar Agarwal, Chairman of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), joined her on this momentous occasion, along with senior officials from the GST department.

Addressing the audience, the Finance Minister shed light on the Mera Bill Mera Adhikaar scheme, underlining the pivotal role of the common citizen in contributing to the nation’s development by requesting a bill from traders or shopkeepers during purchases. She stressed that it is not only the right of consumers to obtain a bill, but it is also the responsibility of the trader or shopkeeper to provide one. Incentives such as the awards offered will serve as a compelling catalyst for more individuals to request and upload bills on the portal as a means of active participation in the scheme.

The Mera Bill Mera Adhikaar (MBMA) scheme, launched by the CBIC on September 1, 2023, aims to cultivate a culture of generating bills and invoices during sales and purchase transactions. To promote awareness about this initiative, a campaign supporting the MBMA scheme is currently underway.

State Finance Minister Shri Kanubhai Desai expressed his gratitude to the Union Finance Minister for the Diwali gift of the GST Seva Kendra to Vapi. He praised Smt. Sitharaman’s commitment to considering the interests of the people in every state by involving all GST Council members. Shri Desai lauded the realization of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘One Nation, One Tax,’ and commended the success of the Mera Bill Mera Adhikaar campaign.

The 12 GST Seva Kendras inaugurated on this occasion are strategically located in Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, Godhra, Vapi, Mehsana, Palanpur, Gandhinagar, Rajkot, Bhavnagar, Junagadh, and Gandhidham. GST Seva Kendras serve as dedicated service centers established by the Government of India to assist taxpayers in addressing GST (Goods and Services Tax) related issues effectively.
