The Bihar Finance Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary placed the budget 2023 on February 28th 2023 before the State Assembly. The Union budget 2023 by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman was on February 1st 2023 and many states presented their budget followed by that including Kerala, West Bengal..etc.
In the budget speech, the finance minister stated that schemes such as Har Ghar Nal Jal Yojana are being replicated at the national level. Also remarked that there is a rise in the number of students enrolled in primary schools.
The Key highlights in the budget speech are:
- The Fiscal deficit decreased from Rs. 11,325 crore to Rs. 422 Crore.
- 10 Lakhs job for empowering youths.
- Upliftment of girls: A total of Rs 50 crore has been allotted for the girl cycle programme, Rs 100 crore for outfits, and Rs 400 crore has been set aside for the girl child’s upliftment.
- Appointment of 522 teachers to engineering colleges, along with a proposal to give new career options outside of teaching.
- A proposal for 2900 positions with the Staff Selection Commission and 49,000 positions with the Bihar Public Service Commission has been made.
- Urged against not receiving a favourable response to the need for continued GST compensation.
- Bihar Technical Service Commission to fill 12,000 open positions.
