The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation ( GHMC ) has taken criminal action against approximately 40 property owners who issued bounced cheques for property tax payments. The cases have been lodged against these individuals across various police stations in the city, collectively accounting for a staggering ₹11 crore in bounced cheque value.

Despite GHMC’s concerted efforts to streamline tax collection, these instances of bounced cheques represent a setback. However, amidst this crackdown, GHMC has reported a successful collection of ₹1921 crore in property taxes for the fiscal year 2023-24.

GHMC Commissioner D. Ronald Rose has responded to these developments with a stern warning to defaulters, encouraging them to promptly settle their outstanding tax liabilities. With additional cases of bounced cheques expected to be addressed in the coming days, Rose emphasised the critical importance of compliance.

Furthermore, D. Ronald Rose highlighted that the window for availing a 5% rebate on property tax for the current fiscal year will close on April 30. Property owners are strongly encouraged to seize this opportunity and fulfil their tax obligations to avoid facing legal repercussions.
