A satirical post by Chartered Accountant ( CA ) set backfires from the Income Tax Department and the professionals.

The post aimed to highlight the delay in the release of Income Tax Return (ITR) utilities, a critical issue that directly impacts timely return filing. However, it failed to elicit a positive response from both the government and the professional community.
Many professionals commented that as a senior CA, he was bound to act in a very responsible way. One professional commented that “Senior CAs must act responsibly their words hold significant weight among stakeholders. Spreading misinformation for attention, only to later dismiss it as a ‘lighter note’, is completely unacceptable.”
Apart from the ‘Finance Minister called claim’, even though it is satirical, the accountants have raised concerns regarding the delayed release of the income tax return filing utilities. Many taxpayers are eager to know the start dates for filing and have already begun making inquiries. However, accountants can only advise them to wait until the official utilities are released.
While last year the Income Tax Department ensured the timely release of forms and utilities, this year has seen a significant delay. The delay may be due to a possible revamp of the utility systems or other technical upgrades.

Another important aspect to consider is that the right to freedom of speech and expression should not be curtailed. One of the most endearing qualities of our country’s citizens is their sense of humour, something clearly reflected in troll posts and memes. These expressions are not acts of lawlessness or public nuisance. Rather, they are creative ways to voice opinions, often in response to government actions or policies, through platforms that offer greater visibility and engagement.
Many people use humour as a tool to highlight issues, making serious matters more relatable and engaging. It is up to individuals to interpret such content positively or negatively. As long as posts do not spread misinformation, defame others, or incite hatred or violence, citizens have every right to use social media to express opinions and draw attention to important issues that deserve the government’s notice.
