The Central Government, vide notification no. 42/2024-CUSTOMS (N.T.) dated 12th June 2024 has added the Vizhinjam International Seaport for the purpose of Import and Export Operations of Goods under Customs.
The notification states as follows:
“In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (a) of sub-section (1) of the section 7 of the Customs Act, 1962, the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs hereby makes the following further amendments in the notification of the Government of India, in the Ministry of Finance (Department of Revenue) No. 62/1994 –Customs (N.T.), dated the 21st November, 1994, published in the Gazette of India, Extraordinary, vide number S.O.829 (E), dated the 21st November, 1994, namely:-
In the said notification in the Table, against serial number 7 relating to the State of Kerala, in column (3) and (4), after item (8) in column (3) and the entries relating thereto in column (4), the following item and entries shall be inserted, namely: –

“(9) Vizhinjam International Seaport | Unloading of imported goods and the loading of export goods or any class of such goods.” |
The Vizhinjam International Transhipment, situated in Thiruvananthapuram District is a Deepwater Multipurpose Seaport, an ambitious project undertaken by the Government of Kerala, is primarily designed to facilitate container transhipment, as well as handle multi-purpose and break bulk cargo.
The port is currently being developed under a landlord model with a Public Private Partnership (PPP) component, specifically under the design, build, finance, operate, and transfer (DBFOT) framework. Construction commenced on 5th December 2015 under the stewardship of the private partner, Concessionaire M/s Adani Vizhinjam Port Private Limited.
