The Ministry of Finance has notified that the Motor car for the use of Governor of the State would be eligible for customs duty exemption.

A notification issued by the Department of Revenue has stated that “In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 25 of the Customs Act, 1962 (52 of 1962), the Central Government, on being satisfied that it is necessary in the public interest so to do hereby exempts the “Motor car for the use of Governor of the State”, falling within any Chapter of the First Schedule to the Customs Tariff Act, 1975 (51 of 1975) and description specified in column (2) of the Table below, from the whole of the duty of customs leviable thereon as per the rates specified in the First Schedule to the said Customs Tariff Act,1975, if imported or purchased out of bond by the Governor of any State on appointment or during their tenure in the office.”

The notification shall come into force with effect from the 18th day of November, 2022.
