The Central Government has imposed a ban on import and transit of goods from Pakistan. This decision was taken amid tensions between two nations after the Pahalgam attack. The Directorate General of Foreign Trade ( DGFT ) has notified the same vide notification no. 6/2025-26 dated 2nd May 2025.
The prohibition covers both direct and indirect imports, as well as the transit of all goods from Pakistan, irrespective of whether such goods are otherwise freely importable or permitted under existing rules. The restriction is effective immediately and will remain in force until further orders.

Direct or indirect Import or transit of all goods originating in or exported from Pakistan, whether or not freely importable or otherwise permitted, shall be prohibited with immediate effect, until further orders. This restriction is imposed in the interest of national security and public policy. Any exception to this prohibition shall require prior approval of the Government of India."
It has clearly provided that any exception to this prohibition will require prior approval from the Government of India. Official trade between India and Pakistan has reduced over the last few years, with imports amounting to a mere $0.42 million for April–January FY25, but the ban covers all types of goods, including farm produce, seeds, and chemicals.
