The Central Government today notified CGST and IGST Acts extending Goods and Services Tax (GST) laws to the State of Jammu and Kashmir.
The Integrated GST and Central GST Bill was passed in Lok Sabha on first week of August.
The Bills were passed amidst the Opposition’s protests over the tax being aimed at infringing the state’s special status whereas the finance minister called it necessary for the benefit of the state’s traders and consumers.
The Notifications stated that, the Act and all rules, notifications, schemes and orders made thereunder by the Central Government shall be in force in, the State of Jammu and Kashmir.
The Act will replace the ordinance promulgated by the President while extending provisions to the state.
