Govt Permits to Export 2,000 MT Non-Basmati White Rice to Malawi and Zimbabwe via NCEL [Read Notification]
Despite the ban on export of White rice, the government as committed to food security made some exceptions

The Directorate General of Foreign Trade ( DGFT ) has authorised the export of Non-Basmati White Rice to Malawi and Zimbabwe through the National Cooperative Exports Limited ( NCEL ). The government has approved exports totaling 1,000 MT each to Malawi and Zimbabwe.
According to the notification, this decision is made under the powers conferred by Section 3 and Section 5 of the Foreign Trade (Development & Regulation) Act, 1992, as amended, read with Para 1.02 and 2.01 of the Foreign Trade Policy, 2023. It is in accordance with the provisions outlined in Para 2(iv) of Notification No. 20/2023 dated July 20, 2023.

Despite the ban on exports of non-basmati white rice since July 20, 2023, aimed at Supporting domestic supply, exceptions are made based on government permission to fulfil food security requirements upon request by certain countries.
