The Central Government has prohibited onion exports until further orders. According to the notification “Export prohibition on export of onions under HS Code 0703 10 19 valid till 31 st March, 2024 is extended until further orders.”
The DGFT, vide notification no. 81/2023 dated 22nd March 2024, in exercise of powers conferred by Section 3 read with section 5 of the Foreign Trade ( Development & Regulation ) Act, 1992, as amended, read with Para 1.02 and 2.01 of the Foreign Trade Policy, 2023, the Central Government hereby amends Notification No. 49 dt. 07.12.2023 regarding Export Policy of Onions in Chapter 07 of Schedule 2 of the ITC ( HS ) Export Policy, as under:

However, the provisions under Para-3 of Notification No. 49 dt. 07.12.2023 remain unchanged.
Governments may impose restrictions on onion exports to maintain a sufficient domestic supply and stabilize prices, especially in periods of scarcity or price fluctuations. This measure aims to avoid shortages and maintain reasonable onion prices for consumers within the country.
