GST: CBEC Advertises Anti-Profiteering Authority

The Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC), issued an advertisement on standing/screening committees of anti-profiteering authority under the new Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime with a view to educate people about the mechanism.
Anti-profiteering authority is a mechanism to examine whether the benefits of implementation of GST such as tax reduction or input tax credits availed by any registered person have actually resulted in a commensurate reduction in the price of the goods or services or both supplied by him, this is to ensure that the consumer is protected from arbitrary price increase in the name of GST.
Though the Goods and Services tax laws has been launched in India on 1st July 2017, the Government has not yet implemented the provisions relating to anti-profiteering.
The advertisement issued by the Board on Tuesday gives a brief note on what is anti-profiteering authority and its structure.
“Affected consumers may file an application, in the prescribed format, before the Standing Committee on Anti-profiteering if the profiteering has all-India character OR before the State Screening Committees if the profiteering is of local nature.”For further details, persons may contact in the below address.
