Growth from Domestic and Import Sources

Refunds and Net Revenue

Refunds are amounts returned to taxpayers, usually exporters, who have paid tax but are eligible for a refund.

  • Domestic refunds went up by 53.7%, from Rs. 11,912 crore in May 2024 to Rs. 18,314 crore in May 2025.

State-Wise Performance

Many states reported strong growth in GST collections in May 2025 compared to May 2024:

Settlement with States

GST is collected by both the Centre and the States, and a portion of the tax collected centrally is later shared with the states.

  • The pre-settlement SGST (collected directly by states) rose by 10%.
  • However, the post-settlement SGST (which includes the central share allocated to states) dropped slightly by 1%, due to changes in how revenue is shared.
