An investigation by the GST Department uncovered a huge tax scam in Kerala. They looked into the scrap sector and found out that fake GST ( Goods and Services Tax ) bills were used to do business worth Rs 1,000 crore. This means that people were pretending to pay taxes when they weren’t really paying them.
Because of this scam, the state government lost a lot of money, around Rs. 180 crore. The scam was happening in seven different parts of the state. About 300 officials from the GST Department did inspections to figure out what was going on.
During these inspections, they found out that some people who weren’t even in the scrap business had registered for GST. This made it look like they were doing scrap business when they weren’t. They also found fake bills that were made to look real.
The officials have said that they need to interrogate the people involved as accused to understand the full extent of the scam. Some reports are saying that this might be one of the biggest tax scams ever in our state, reported Manorama
Recently, in Pune, the GST intelligence team stopped a big fake tax scheme worth Rs 145 crore. They found out about it by looking into some companies in Pune and Goa. They found that this fake scheme was happening in many states, like Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Delhi, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana. Maybe more states were also involved.
Around 50 fake companies were part of this scheme. They were using fake papers or changing real ones to pretend they were doing big business transactions. They were claiming a lot of tax credit without actually doing any real business.
