The e-Invoice Portal of the Goods and Services at had stopped working for a few hours this afternoon. Many practitioners tweeted the matter to the official Twitter handle of the GSTN.

An error saying “Sorry, an error occurred while executing your request” appears on the screen while trying to log in or generate invoices.

The following tweets addressed the issue faced by the tax professionals, to which there has been no definite resolve from the department apart from the suggestion to raise a ticket and DM the same: –

“Currently we are facing issues while generating IRN “Application Error” and even the e-invoice portal is not responding” https://twitter.com/parshuram009/status/1629061019598462979?s=20

Similar instances of a faulty portal had given a headache to the stakeholders

To most of the tweets regarding the matter, the default reply as stated below was given by the GSTN in the Official Twitter handle  –

“Dear XXXXXXX XXXX, we regret the inconvenience caused. Please raise a ticket with relevant screenshots at https://selfservice.gstsystem.in and share the ticket number through Direct Message to help us investigate the issue.”

Some other issues like the inability to file GSTR-1 also popped up in the portal, apart from the e-Invoice Portal crash.

On the contrary, the GST e-invoice portal is a platform developed by the Government of India to facilitate the generation of electronic invoices for businesses that are registered under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime. The portal is part of the government’s larger initiative to digitize and streamline the GST filing process and reduce the burden of compliance for businesses.

However, at times like this, the massive expense of Rs. 1379.70 Crores for GST Portal Development and Maintenance revealed in an RTI application goes unjustified and results in an unfulfilling experience to the stakeholders struggling for proper compliance.

The Portal issue finally seems to have been solved from the side of the GSTN by 04:45 PM, after resulting in more than three hours of downtime to the workflow of the professionals.
