GSTAT to Satellite Launch Services: Agenda of 50th GST Council Meeting

Today, the GST Council Meeting is set to take place. The council has declared that the 50th meeting of the GST council will be held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. The Union Finance Minister will chair the meeting with the Group of Ministers (GoM) to address the taxation issues.
The reports stated that the council has already taken the issue of Goods and Services Tax (GST) into consideration and will be resolved soon. As per the reports, the main agenda for the meeting will be the taxation issues of online gaming, horse racing and casinos.
The agenda for discussion includes topics ranging from GSTAT to the provision of Satellite Launch Services by private entities. On July 1, 2023, the 6th anniversary of the GST implementation was celebrated. However, it is surprising to note that an appellate tribunal has not yet been established to address disputes.
Let’s see the core topics expected to be discussed in the Council meeting.
- Goods and Services Tax Appellate Tribunal (GSAT)
- Taxation on online gaming, casino, and horse racing
- Tax exemption on food and beverage, sold inside movie halls
- Tax exemption on import of cancer drug Dinutuximab
- Tax exemption on medicine costs Rs. 36 lakhs
- Tax exemptions on satellite launch service
- Taxation of Multi Utility Vehicles (MUVs)
- ITC Claims
- Mandatory Physical verification to curb fake registrations
- Tax on non-fried snacks
- Rate rationalisation
- TCS liability of suppliers on ONDC
- Taxation on Satellite Launch Services by private entities
In relation to GSTAT, during its previous meeting (49th council meeting), the council gave its approval for the creation of a National Tribunal in New Delhi. However, even with the council's approval for the appellate tribunals, it would require approximately 6 to 7 months for the complete formation of these tribunals.
