The Goods and Services Tax Network ( GSTN ) has clarified the Aadhar authentication process for GST ( Goods and Services Tax ) registration, utilising biometric-based Aadhaar authentication as per Rule 8 of the CGST Rules, 2017. It listed and clarified the processes.

The applicants must complete and submit the REG-01 form on the official GST portal at www.gst.gov.in. If an applicant receives a link for OTP-based Aadhaar Authentication, they should proceed with the application using the existing process.

However, if the applicant is selected for biometric-based Aadhaar authentication, they will receive a link to book an appointment with a GST Suvidha Kendra ( GSK ) for biometric verification and document verification.

The applicants must use the provided link to schedule a visit to the designated GSK. Once the appointment is confirmed via email, they can visit the GSK as per the chosen schedule.

During the visit to the GSK, the applicant must bring the following documents along with their original Aadhaar card and PAN card:

  • Jurisdiction details mentioned in the intimation email
  • A copy (hard or soft) of the appointment confirmation email
  • Original uploaded documents

After completing the biometric-based Aadhaar authentication and document verification, an Application Registration Number (ARN) will be generated. Applicants can then track the status of their application on the GST portal.

The GSTN has announced that the feature for booking an appointment to visit a GST Suvidha Kendra ( GSK ) is currently available for applicants in Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh. This service will be gradually extended to other States and Union Territories. For more details, visit the News & Update section of www.gst.gov.in.
