Leader Bikram Singh Majithia Arrested on ₹540 Cr Money Laundering Allegations: Akali Dal Alleges Political Vendetta, AAP Asserts “No One Above Law”

Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and former Punjab Minister Bikram Singh Majithia has been arrested by Punjab police based on serious allegations under the NDPS Act and disproportionate assets. The FIR alleges “Bikram Singh Majithia and others are being investigated by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) and has uncovered substantial evidence indicating acquisition of assets disproportionate to the known sources of income of Bikram Singh Majithia and his wife Ganieve Kaur. That Bikram Singh Majithia has accumulated vast wealth, properties, and business interests in his name or in the name of his family members which appear to be grossly disproportionate to his legitimate income. In the course of investigation the material collected establishes that the assets have been acquired through proceeds of illegal activities and it amounts to illicit enrichment of resources.”

SAD President stood firmly by Majithia, stating on X (formerly Twitter): “It is clear that Chief Minister @BhagwantMann & @AamAadmiParty have been unnerved by the resolute manner in which Mr Majithia has taken on the govt and exposed its corrupt and amoral acts. We will not be cowed down… Registering false cases is a criminal act.” Majithia’s wife, MLA Ganieve Kaur, called the arrest a result of him “speaking the truth” and vowed to continue doing so.

Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said in a video statement that ministers from a previous government were responsible for bringing drugs into Punjab. He claimed they distributed the drugs using official government vehicles and even sheltered international smugglers in their own homes. He added that the ongoing action sends a strong message that no leader, no matter how powerful, will be spared.
