Under the Chairmanship of Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, the Himachal Pradesh Cabinet has given approval for a significant overhaul of the State Taxes and Excise department, establishing separate wings for Excise and GST & Allied Taxes to streamline operations and enhance effectiveness in tax management. This strategic decision aims to address the distinct challenges posed by excise duties and GST-related issues, ensuring a more tailored and efficient response.

The Excise wing will oversee and regulate the imposition of excise duties on locally produced goods, monitoring their production, distribution, and sale to ensure compliance with tax regulations and contribute to revenue collection.

Meanwhile, the GST and Allied Taxes wing will manage aspects related to the comprehensive GST framework and other allied taxes, overseeing tax compliance, facilitating taxpayer services, and addressing complexities arising from GST regulations.

In tandem with this restructuring, the state Cabinet has extended the third phase of the Himachal Pradesh Sadbhawana Legacy Cases Resolution Scheme, expediting the resolution of pending assessment cases and arrears from January 1, 2024, to March 31, 2024.
