The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India ( ICAI ) has announced the empanelment of members to serve as observers during the upcoming Chartered Accountants examinations scheduled for January 2025.
The examinations will take place from January 11 to January 21, 2025, excluding January 20.

1. Cooling-off Period: Members are advised that a cooling-off period is now mandated after three consecutive attempts for Observership duties, effective from May 2024.
2. Eligibility Criteria: To qualify for empanelment, members must:
- Be no older than 65 years as of October 25, 2024.
- Be registered as members since July 1, 2022, without interruption.
- Not have relatives or dependents appearing for the exams in January 2025, although participation in ISA-AT does not disqualify them.
- Not be coaching students for any examinations conducted by the ICAI.
- Have no pending disciplinary proceedings or convictions against them.
- Not be currently serving as elected or co-opted members of any ICAI council or committee.
- Agree to adhere to the ICAI's Observer Guidelines.

3. Honorarium: Observers will receive an honorarium of ₹3,000 per day, along with conveyance reimbursement of ₹350 for A-class cities and ₹250 for other cities.
4. Duties of Observers: Responsibilities include ensuring the proper handling of question paper packets, monitoring the examination process from the bank to the examination center, and submitting reports on a daily basis.
Application Process:
Members interested in serving as observers must apply online via the ICAI portal at ICAI Observer Portal. The application window opens on October 25, 2024, and closes on November 20, 2024.
Examination Locations:
The exams will be conducted in various cities across India, divided into different regions, including Western, Southern, Eastern, Central, and Northern regions, with specific zones established for cities like Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, and others.
