The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India ( ICAI ) has launched a cutting-edge research center at its Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Hyderabad. This initiative is an attempt to foster innovative research and contribute to national development in areas such as taxation, economic growth, foreign direct investment (FDI), environmental sustainability, and more.
At the heart of this initiative is the appointment of Dr. Nupur Pavan Bang as the CoE Director-cum-Dean. A celebrated academic and researcher, Dr. Bang brings extensive expertise in family business, finance, and data analytics. Recognized among the Top 100 Women in Finance in India (2020), she has previously served at ISB, Ashoka University, and IIM Ranchi. Tasked with spearheading innovative research, she aims to position ICAI as a global leader in thought leadership and policymaking.

The Hyderabad CoE will focus on critical studies, including Union and State Budgets, financial literacy, certification practices, and the role of Chartered Accountants in governance and policymaking. These insights also will be shared with government bodies.
Speaking on the occasion, ICAI President CA. Ranjeet Kumar Agarwal stated, “Nurturing talent with a strong foundation of knowledge and contemporary skill sets is a key focus of the Institute. ICAI aims to advance the accounting profession’s knowledge base with an interdisciplinary approach to address emerging challenges. Through state-of-the-art research, development, and innovation facilities, ICAI aims to produce impactful research that will help in policymaking, strategic decision making, cultivating professional excellence, creating rewarding opportunities for students and professionals globally and supporting the upskilling and reskilling of ICAI members, students, employees, government officials and other stakeholders.”

Currently, ICAI operates two Centres of Excellence in Hyderabad and Jaipur, with plans to inaugurate a third in Kolkata by January 2025. Over the next three years, ICAI aims to establish eight more CoEs across India to drive innovation, skill development, and research.
Additionally, the newly launched CoE Directorate is a testament of the dedication to tackling emerging challenges posed by globalization, evolving business models, and rapid technological advancements. This effort aligns with ICAI’s vision to remain at the forefront of transformative changes in the accounting field.
