The expenditure incurred by the Ghaziabad branch of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) for the mega student conference held in Delhi on September 2nd and 3rd, 2023, has become a topic of discussion. According to the bill from Radisson Blu, the exclusive cost for liquor amounted to Rs. 42,988.

The tweet has posted scanned images of the bill, indicating that approximately 21 lakhs were expended for the two-day program. Within this amount, Rs. 42,998 was allocated for liquor, with Rs. 16,198 spent on day 1 and Rs. 26,790 on day 2.

Following this tweet, numerous people had expressed their concerns and criticisms regarding the expenditure. They believe that this matter should be brought to the attention of the ICAI and the ethics committee for further review.

One person replied that “Will be writing to @theicai about this, also ethics committee lets see if there are any actions take against this”

Another comment states as follows “Such a rare thing by ICAI, I believe. What it required doing this,is an obvious query in mind; that too appeasing students in such a way (offering liquor) is something quite questionable. After all ICAI supposed to be highly moralistic, ethical back bone & systematic organisation!”

The student conferences are organised with positive intentions, such as improving knowledge, developing skills, providing networking opportunities, fostering professional growth, and offering career guidance. In cases where these objectives are exceeded, a thorough investigation and appropriate actions must be undertaken by the ICAI.
