The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India ( ICAI ) held its convocation ceremony for newly qualified Chartered Accountants ( CA ) on July 7, 2024, simultaneously at 13 locations across the country.

This ceremony marked a significant milestone for over 10,000 individuals who officially became Chartered Accountants after receiving their certificates of membership.

Chief Guest Shri TV Mohandas Pai and ICAI President CA. Ranjeet Kumar Agarwal addressed all participants virtually from Bengaluru. Central and Regional Council members of ICAI then led the proceedings at each location, personally presenting certificates to the newly qualified CAs.

Beyond celebrating achievements, the ICAI used this platform to announce its ongoing commitment to progress and excellence. The institute highlighted its focus on gender diversity, with 30% of its membership now comprised of females. Additionally, the ICAI emphasised its dedication to staying at the forefront of the accounting profession by embracing new technologies in areas like forensic accounting, sustainable risk management, and international taxation.

Recognizing the need for increased accessibility, the ICAI announced a significant change: the CA intermediate and Foundation course examinations will now be held three times a year. Further demonstrating its commitment to innovation, the formation of an “AI in ICAI” committee was revealed.  This committee will explore how artificial intelligence can be leveraged to enhance the professional development of CAs.

The institute also shared some impressive statistics. This year, a record-breaking number of students, a staggering 138,000, registered for the foundation course. These figures solidify the global recognition enjoyed by Indian CAs, with over 42,000 members currently working outside India.  In a move that will benefit Indian CAs residing in Singapore, the ICAI secured them equal rights with their Singaporean counterparts, provided they have been living there for more than six months.

The convocation ceremony serves more than just a celebratory function. It acts as a bridge, formally welcoming new CAs into the esteemed fraternity of Chartered Accountants and fostering a sense of belonging within the profession. Through its rigorous training programs and demanding examinations, the ICAI equips individuals with exceptional knowledge, intelligence, and expertise in accounting. These highly skilled professionals go on to play an indispensable role in various sectors of the Indian economy.
