The 73rd President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), CA Charanjot Singh Nanda, has laid out his vision for the future of the profession, emphasizing integrity, innovation, nation-building, and professional excellence. In his inaugural message, he described ICAI as his “guru and guiding light”, expressing deep gratitude for the opportunity to serve the world’s largest accounting body and reaffirming his commitment to empowering Chartered Accountants (CAs) as key drivers of India’s financial ecosystem.

CA Nanda stressed that the role of Chartered Accountants has evolved beyond traditional compliance and audit work. Today, CAs are strategic advisors, guiding businesses, industries, and policymakers in complex financial decision-making.

ICAI President on Auditor Compensation and Banking Law Amendments

Speaking on ICAI’s continuous efforts to protect the independence of auditors, CA Nanda stated ICAI has submitted a formal representation to Hon’ble Union Finance Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, expressing concern over the proposed modification in the Banking Law (Amendment) Bill, 2024. This amendment seeks to grant Public Sector Banks (PSBs) the power to determine the remuneration of their Statutory Auditors, a move ICAI strongly opposes.

ICAI President on Strengthening Global Partnerships

Discussing ICAI’s role in international collaboration, CA Nanda said that the longstanding MoU between ICAI and ICPAK, signed in 2019, has helped both institutions strengthen ties and promote mutual learning. Through interactive sessions, ICAI and ICPAK shared insights on topics such as Unique Document Identification Number (UDIN), Artificial Intelligence (AI), digital learning, and audit quality enhancement.

ICAI President on Expanding India’s Global Accounting Influence

President announced the launch of five new Representative Offices in the USA, expanding ICAI’s presence into Kansas, Louisiana, Minnesota, Tennessee, San Diego

CA Nanda also highlighted that ICAI made history by becoming the first professional regulator in India to receive this prestigious recognition. He announced that the top three rank holders of the year received the Governor’s Award of Excellence, which included a citation, trophy and a cash prize of Rs. 25,000
