The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India ( ICAI ) is to establish a committee for promoting work life balance among the Chartered Accountants ( CA ). This was announced by the newly elected president Charanjot Singh during the press meet.
The working hours in the private sector have been in debate for a long time, where many professionals feel exhausted and complain about the hectic schedule. The panel will work at the regional and branch levels to hear the work related issues of the CAs and provide remedies without jeopardising productivity.

Last year, ICAI issued a new guidance note titled “Beyond the Numbers: Work-Life Balance for Chartered Accountants”. This initiative was developed by the Professional Skills Enrichment Committee ( PSEC ), focusing on the importance of maintaining a healthy work-life balance for Chartered Accountants ( CAs ), a profession known for its demanding schedules and intense workload.
The tragic suicide of a Kerala-based Chartered Accountant employed at EY has reignited concerns over workplace stress, prompting the Kerala Chief Minister to call for stricter enforcement of labor laws. With the new torchbearers addressing the issue of work-life balance, professionals can now find relief and seek support from the designated committee to manage stress effectively.
