In a landmark decision aimed at aligning with global best practices and enhancing opportunities for students, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has announced that the CA Final examinations will now be held three times a year. This change, approved by the 26th Council of ICAI, marks a significant shift from the previous system where the CA Final exams were conducted twice a year.
The announcement, made via a press release by the Public Relations Committee of ICAI, follows a similar decision taken last year wherein ICAI increased the frequency of CA Intermediate and Foundation exams from two to three times a year.

The CA journey consists of three crucial levels:
Foundation – The entry-level examination for aspiring Chartered Accountants.
Intermediate – The second stage, which involves in-depth study and understanding of financial, taxation, and auditing principles.
Final – The last and most challenging stage of the CA qualification process.
Traditionally, ICAI conducted these exams twice a year, in May and November. Now, with the CA Final also following suit, the exams will be held in January, May, and September every year, giving students a higher number of attempts and greater flexibility in planning their exam strategy.

With India's growing economy, rapid digitalization of financial transactions, and expanding corporate sector, the role of CAs in financial reporting, tax advisory, and corporate governance is more critical than ever.
The revamp is also expected to benefit Indian CA aspirants looking for international opportunities, as many global accounting bodies conduct multiple exam sessions each year.
